EYRE: WE WERE TERRIFIC IN DEFEAT

29 October 2012

Steve praises his chargers

Steve Eyre was full of praise for his under-21 team despite losing 2-1 to Leicester on Monday evening.

Eyre watched on as his side battled back from a goal down to only lose the game with ten minutes remaining courtesy of a well taken Jeff Schlupp goal.

“Tonight was a great advert for the under-21 league. There was a good mixture of senior professional footballers and up and coming first team players,” said Steve.

“Both teams worked very hard and it made for a very good contest. I got what I wanted from the lads in terms of effort and in the end the game came down to a bit of clinical finishing from their experienced frontline. Our frontline was lacking experience, but weren’t too far behind in terms of quality and the amount of chances that they fashioned. I think we needed just a little bit more luck in front of goal. On the balance of play we were always in the game and on occasions ahead in it.

“We will take the defeat tonight because of the amount of effort that the lads have applied. I have just said to the team that for them to be as organised as they were and to show the character that they did to come from behind is a great achievement for them. If we carry on like that then we know that we are heading in the right direction.”

Finally, Steve thanked the Town fans who came out to watch his young Terriers.

“We had a nice little crowd in tonight, who got behind the team. Playing inside the Stadium didn’t faze the players and instead they grew and grew into the contest. We will take the performance out of tonight and move on.”
