WARD SCORES IN DEVELOPMENT DEFEAT

13 November 2012

Town lose 3-1 in development clash at Sheffield Wednesday

Steve Eyre took a senior Development team to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday afternoon where it fell to a 3-1 defeat to its Championship rivals.

Town fielded a strong team with the likes of Anthony Gerrard, Danny Ward and Adam Hammill all featuring. Ward scored a consolation for Town in a game where the hosts were far more clinical than the Terriers.

Speaking to htafc.com, Steve Eyre said: “We are grateful that we were able to get some minutes into a number of the first team players. We fielded a very senior team as did Sheffield Wednesday. With that in mind the affair was played at a fairly low intensity and both teams enjoyed a lot of possession.

“A break away and a shot from distance separated the teams unfairly in the first half. We started the second half with a little bit more intensity and created a few chances. At the end of our best spell in the game they scored again with another shot from distance. We responded well and created more chances, but in the end we only came away with a consolation thanks to Danny Ward.

“Critically the first team players got 90 minutes under their belts and we didn’t pick up any injuries. The thing that separates every game of football is which team can get take its chances – and Wednesday took its better than us.”

Town’s team (4-3-3):

Ian Bennett; Calum Woods, Anthony Gerrard, Murray Wallace, Tom Smith (Jordan Sinnott, 46); Scott Kay, Scott Arfield, Anton Robinson; Danny Ward, Godwin Abadaki (Matt Crooks, 60), Adam Hammill
