‘SCANZ’: THANKS TO THE FANS!

Goalscorer Scannell talks after win over Bristol

Saturday’s match-winner Sean Scannell hopes that his first goal in Town colours will help him to cement a place in the team after today’s 1-0 win over Bristol City.

Scannell made his first start since early October and netted the only goal of the game just before the half time whistle to secure an important three points for the Terriers, who are now 7th in the npower Championship table.

“It’s ended up being a good game, but to be fair it was a bit scrappy,” ‘Scanz’ told htafc.com. “I’m just happy that we’ve got the 1-0 win and it’s nice to score; hopefully that can help to keep me in the First Team.

“It was a really hard game – like I said it ended up being really scrappy. They had a few chances to score, but I thought we defended really well to keep the clean sheet and get the win.”

The Croydon-born winger now wants to pin down a place in the side amid strong competition from the likes of Danny Ward, Adam Hammill and others.

“I know we have a lot of good players – we’ve had a couple injured today like Beckford and Vaughany – but if I keep training hard, hopefully I can keep myself in the team.”

Scannell’s goal came about thanks to one of the few genuine moments of quality in an otherwise quiet first half, with midfielder Adam Clayton setting Lee Novak away in the channel before his cross was turned home by Sean.

Scannell continued: “It was a real piece of quality from ‘Clayts’ to set the move running and then it was a great delivery from Novak, but someone has to be there to put the ball in the net – otherwise his cross goes out for a throw-in! I’m glad that I’ve got off the mark now; hopefully more will follow now.”

The summer signing got a great ovation from the Town fans when he was substituted late on and he reserved his final words for the supporters:

“I thought the fans were quality. To be fair I love the fans here; they’ve really welcomed me and it feels like home already. I’d like to thank the fans for making me feel like that.”
