EYRE: WE WERE TERRIFIC

20 November 2012

Steve delighted with 4-1 thumping

Steve Eyre presided over his side’s 4-1 thumping of Nottingham Forest on Tuesday afternoon and described the performance to htafc.com as terrific.

Town were three goals up by half-time courtesy of Godwin Abadaki and Matt Crooks and finished the game off as a contest when they scored early in the second 45.

“We were satisfied with the way that we played against Crewe and we felt that our performance, perhaps, deserved a little bit more,” said Steve.

“We have been striving to put a performance and a result together and I think today we have done that. I thought that we were terrific from start to finish and from top to bottom.

“The first 60 minutes of the match were, without question, our best of the season so far. We played with great vigour, effort and tempo, but what we did superbly was that we outnumbered Nottingham all over the pitch. We showed great desire in attack, got in behind them, and were a threat for the whole hour.

“At the start of the game we were getting up to their penalty area and suffering a bit of misfortune, but we got a break when a fantastic run and cross from Tom Smith resulted in Godwin (Abadaki) getting us up and running. Some quick play around the box, which we have been working on all week, resulted in Matt Crooks opening his account shortly afterwards.

“We could have settled on our lead but we went for more and we were delighted when Crooksy got another before half-time and then Godwin just after.

“Forest gave it a good go and did get on the score sheet, but I felt that we were good throughout and outstanding for 60 minutes at the start of the game.”
