WEMBLEY VICTORY IMMORTALISED IN STONE

23 July 2012

Town's Play-Off win commemorated

Town’s dramatic Play-Off Final victory over Sheffield United in May is to be honoured with a permanent reminder within the stadium's historic Wembley Way project.

The Club's penalty shoot-out victory over the Blades secured promotion for Simon Grayson’s side and the achievement will be commemorated by the inclusion of a personalised stone on the Wembley concourse alongside those of other major achievers.

Town has received a replica stone accompanied by a letter of congratulation from FA Chairman David Bernstein; Chairman Dean Hoyle is pictured with the stone above.

Huddersfield Chairman Dean Hoyle said:

"This is a fantastic reminder of a truly memorable day. It was obviously a bit nerve wracking during the penalties but thankfully we came out on top and the commemorative stone is a brilliant way to mark our achievement and it’s a wonderful gesture from Wembley Stadium.

“Getting into the Championship was always our target and as we were successful I can truly say that to achieve it at Wembley, was definitely the way to do it! All of us on the board were delighted for the fans and when they’re near to Wembley in the future for whatever reason, they can seek out the play-off stone and remember a truly wonderful day."

Wembley Stadium will also be laying stones to celebrate the Play-off successes for West Ham and Crewe Alexandra along with special recognition for York City's double success in winning the Conference Play-Off final and the FA Trophy.
