SIMON: IT WAS A GOOD DAY FOR EVERYONE

22 July 2012

Gaffer happy with Guiseley work out

Huddersfield Town Manager Simon Grayson told htafc.com that he was pleased with the tough test Guiseley provided his players following the 1-0 defeat at Nethermoor on Saturday.

A first half strike from Danny Forrest was the difference between the teams; however, Grayson was pleased with the work out.

"It was a good game - and Guiseley provided us with a very good test," said Simon. "I thought we passed the ball around well and as our pre-season develops the players touches and movement will sharpen up.

"The lads have enjoyed being back out there playing eleven a side football. We would have liked to have won, but pre-season isn't about results it is about getting the fitness levels of the players correct and working on the shape of the team."

New signings Paul Dixon, Oliver Norwood and Sean Scannell made good impressions in the first half while Adam Clayton displayed his passing range in the second half alongside Academy graduates Chris Atkinson and Matt Crooks.

"We played two different systems and we will have to be adaptable throughout the season. It has done some of the players a world of good to get to know their teammates better; it is ok getting to know each other in training but the match situation is completely different."

Simon continued: "We might stick to the same procedure of playing two different teams for each half at Kilmarnock on Wednesday and then we will look to progress things from there. Our week in Scotland will allow the players to bond away from the training pitch and we will also introduce some bonding exercises into the training sessions."

Jamie McCombe, Scott Arfield and Joel Lynch were the only first team players not to get a run out and Simon explained their current situations.

"Jamie McCombe has got a slight problem with his back and it looks likely that he will miss the Scotland trip as will Scott Arfield who is still recovering from his ankle injury. Joel Lynch will certainly travel with us and will hopefully be involved in the games."

Town's next first team friendly is against Kilmarnock on Wednesday 26 July, for ticket information click HERE!
