24 July 2012

Leeds Met honour Dean in summer graduation

Town Chairman Dean Hoyle is to receive an honorary degree from Leeds Metropolitan University as part of their summer graduation ceremonies.

Dean will be awarded a Doctor of Business Administration at the University’s Headingley Campus in a ceremony on Friday 27 July for his significant contribution to the business community and his commitment to fundraising and charitable pursuits.

The graduation celebrations are taking place at University’s Headingley Campus from Monday 18 to Saturday 23 July, where over 5,000 students will graduate over five days, alongside ten honorary degree recipients.

Others receiving honorary degrees from Leeds Metropolitan include England rugby union head coach Stuart Lancaster, Red or Dead designer Wayne Hemmingway, Olympic torch designer Edward Barber, Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis and Mumtaz Khan Akbar is the founder and owner of the Mumtaz Food Group.

Every year staff and students at Leeds Metropolitan are asked to nominate people from the region to be put forward for the honorary doctorates and Dean was selected from the shortlist by the committee, headed by the Vice Chancellor, thanks to his work with Card Factory and Huddersfield Town – in particular the Club’s fundraising efforts on the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign and in taking local children to the Play-Off Finals at Old Trafford and Wembley.
