JACK: THE DEFEAT HURTS MASSIVELY

15 December 2012

Hunt on the 2-0 loss at Hull City

Jack Hunt feels elements of Town’s performance in the 2-0 Yorkshire derby defeat at Hull City were unacceptable, but still believes the squad can turn things around after a poor run of form.

“The defeat hurts massively,” the Academy graduate told htafc.com. “I don’t know how many times me, the Gaffer or the other lads have to say it, but another game has passed us by. We’ve finished the game with massive regrets because we don’t feel we’ve turned up. We made things too easy for Hull and they deserved the three points.

“Hull are fourth and are playing well, but if we find the form we had earlier in the season I believe we can beat anyone in this league – we’ve shown that already. However, today there was a big difference between the teams.

“Our ball retention was poor; I can’t remember us making more than five or 10 passes in a row. To be honest I think we were poor defensively for their goals too – we didn’t really make Hull work for them. I don’t think we had a shot on target either, which is not acceptable, even though you are playing away from home against a good team. With the strike-force we have and our midfielders that like to get forward, that’s very disappointing.”

Despite his disappointment at the performance, Jack also praised Town’s promotion-chasing hosts:

“I’m not going to take anything away from Hull; I think they’re a very good team. They keep the ball as well as anyone I’ve seen this season and they caused us a lot of problems. I think they could have turned it on a little bit more if they wanted to.

“It’s hard for me to say that and I’m gutted to do so, but we didn’t turn up. They hit the bar as well. They kept the ball well and gave themselves a breather when they needed it, whereas we did a lot of running and so when we had the ball we were tired.”

Despite today’s low, Jack still believes the current squad can get back on track soon.

“We have a lot of hope still. It’s hard to see it now – I’m one of the worst around for stomaching a defeat – but I think we will turn it around. We need to get on a run quickly.”
