Town launches its latest ‘Walk for Pounds’ challenge to Barnsley
This season you can join Huddersfield Town on the second ‘Walk for Pounds’ challenge - a sponsored walk from Huddersfield to Barnsley on Saturday 10 November in aid of the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign, raising funds for the HTAFC Academy and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance!
The 19-mile walk will set off for Oakwell from Canalside on Leeds Road at approximately 7am on Saturday 10 November, with the planned route going up to Waterloo, through Flockton, to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, to Darton and into Barnsley in time for kick off at 3pm.
It will be the second time the Club has organised a walk to Barnsley - staff and fans trekked from ‘Terriers to Tykes’ back in 2003. Last season, over 180 people walked to Bury’s Gigg Lane for the KIU campaign, raising an incredible £27,000.
Commercial Director Sean Jarvis commented, “The aim of last season’s ‘Walk for Pounds’ was to hold a sponsored event that as many people as possible could take part in.
“The fact that almost 200 fans got involved in what was a very tough physical challenge to support the campaign shows the incredible success of the day, and the reason we have decided to do another walk - this time to Barnsley.
“I’d urge fans to sign up to what will be a brilliant day, with potentially hundreds of fans trekking over to South Yorkshire for what will hopefully be a great Yorkshire derby at the end of it!”
So far, over £710,000 has been raised for the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign, with the target being £1 million by the end of the 2012/13 season.
