STEVE EYRE POST BURNLEY

8 August 2012

Development Coach gives his thoughts following defeat

Huddersfield Town’s Development team continued their pre-season preparations today losing 3-0 against a strong Burnley outfit.

Development Coach, Steve Eyre managed the team and told htafc.com after the match:

“A lot of first team professionals hadn’t been able to get a game for Burnley in a friendly last night so they played in this morning’s game – and at times it was like men against boys,” said Steve.

“Comparatively our team was very youthful and we finished the game with a 15 year-old, 16 year-old and two 17 year-olds on the pitch, three of which were in the back four. For long periods of the game we were out of possession so to come in at half-time at 0-0 was very pleasing – the boys had worked hard.

“We conceded shortly after half-time which was disappointing and then two quick goals from Burnley ended the game as a contest. To their credit the lads continued to battle and did create a few openings, but we were unable to put any away.”

Town’s team consisted of four trialists one of which, Scott Kay, had featured in Simon Grayson’s first team squad at Chesterfield last night.

“Scott Kay continued from where he left off last night after an impressive 40 minutes for the first team. As our oldest player in the team he helped the young lads and we were grateful for his talent and experience. Alongside him the emerging talent of Jordan Sinnott also continued from where he left off last night and gave us a very mature performance. Matt Crooks showed what an asset he is to the Club, occupying three different positions throughout the ninety minutes.

“It was difficult for the other three trialists as they don’t work with the team on a day by day basis and to come up against such tough opposition was hard on them.  I felt they acquitted themselves well and did ok.”

Town’s First Team are in pre-season action tonight against Barcelona B – tickets are priced at £10 adults, £5 concessions!
