SPENCER EXTENDS STAY WITH TERRIERS

29 August 2012

Young striker signs one year contract extension

Huddersfield Town Academy graduate Jimmy Spencer has today signed a one year contract extension with the Terriers.

His original deal was due to expire at the end of the season but he will now stay with the Terriers until the summer of 2014.

The striker, who featured heavily and scored during Town’s pre-season, has been an unused substitute during Town’s three opening Championship games and also started during Town’s defeat in the Capital One Cup at the start of August.

Huddersfield Town Manager Simon Grayson has been impressed by Jimmy during pre-season:

“Jimmy has done well on loan over the last couple of years and gained experience of what first-team football is like,” said Simon. “His attitude and performances over pre-season have impressed us, hence why he has been involved at the start of the season.

“I am delighted that he has got a new contract and he is a player that we will be working with closely with over the next few years to make him a better all-round player.”

After signing his new deal Jimmy told htafc.com that he was looking forward to trying to maintain his place in Simon Grayson’s match day squads.

“The new deal gives me reassurance about my future; I wanted to stay at Huddersfield Town and I am delighted that a longer deal has been sorted.

“I have enjoyed pre-season and I am delighted that I have been involved in the manager’s plans for the opening few games.”

Much of Jimmy’s professional career has been spent on loan at Northwich Victoria, Morecambe and Cheltenham respectively. With the Robins last season Jimmy scored 11 goals in 35 appearances helping fire them to the League 2 Play-Off Final.
