RHODES NETS IN FIRST SCOTLAND START

15 August 2012

Town trio in international action

Jordan Rhodes scored on his first start for the Scottish senior side this evening in a 3-1 win over Australia.

Rhodes, who is Scotland under-21’s record goalscorer with eight goals from as many caps, made his second appearance for Craig Levein’s senior side tonight, following on from his debut as a substitute against Cyprus back in November.

The visitors took an early lead in tonight’s international friendly, but Rhodes made a typical near post run to connect with a cross from left back Danny Fox to send a header into the far corner of the net.

An second-half own goal and a strike from Rhodes’ second-half replacement Ross McCormack gave Scotland the win during the second half, but Rhodes did enough to get the 'Man of the Match' award on the evening during his 67 minutes on the pitch.

Elsewhere Town’s summer signing Joel Lynch made his Wales debut as a 77th substitute during their 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Bosnia. Joel had previously been named as an unused substitute, but manager Chris Coleman handed him his first cap during the international friendly at Parc Y Scarlets tonight and he marked the likes of Manchester City star Edin Dzeko during a tough game.

Town’s other man on international duty, midfielder Oliver Norwood, gained his seventh Northern Ireland cap as an 84th minute substitute during a 3-3 draw at home to Finland.

All three players will now return to Huddersfield ahead of Friday night’s Championship opener at Cardiff City.
