GRAYSON PLEASED WITH EVENING’S WORK

7 August 2012

Manager happy with clean sheet and three goals

Huddersfield Town Manager Simon Grayson spoke to htafc.com in the wake of his side’s comprehensive 3-0 victory over a strong Chesterfield outfit.

“I was very pleased with the performance tonight; we played well throughout and took our chances well in the final third,” said Simon.

“We passed the ball well tonight, moved it around quickly, but were also patient when we had to be and got into some very good positions. To score three goals and keep a clean sheet is good and to get Scott (Arfield) and Jamie (McCombe) 60 minutes each was also very good for us.”

Town are back in action straight away with the arrival of Barcelona B tomorrow night and Simon is hoping for more of the same from his team.

“It is going to be a tough game because Barcelona B are a top opposition – they are the next stars of the first team. I want a similar sort of performance that I have seen today, tomorrow night. I want to see high energy and determination when we closing down the ball and then use it with a purpose when we attack.

“We played a strong team against Chesterfield team tonight and people shouldn’t read too much into who played because places are still up for grabs. A lot of players did themselves favours after tonight’s performance.”

With the return of Scott Arfield and Jamie McCombe, Town head into their final friendly of pre-season with a fully fit squad.

“We have a clean bill of health at the moment and I think the fans can see how strong the first team is with the team that played tonight and with the players that will play tomorrow night. Some of the lads that played tonight will feature against Barcelona tomorrow. Some of the younger players tonight did excellent and I thought the final goal highlighted that; it was a great take from Jordan (Sinnott) and a neat finish.”
