EYRE HAPPY WITH RADCLIFFE RUN-OUT

Steve praises his Development Squad

Huddersfield Town Development Coach Steve Eyre told htafc.com he is delighted with the performance of his side during the 3-0 pre-season win at Radcliffe Borough.

“We didn’t set too many challenges before the game – we just wanted the lads to contest the game at this stage of the season and it turned out to be perfect for us. On the evening we’ve had a lot of ball possession and retention,” Steve explained.

“I asked the lads to get the ball back quickly, which they did, and express themselves. They also kept a clean sheet and won, so everything has been achieved.

“We controlled the game – scoring first often helps with that. We started well and could have been ahead within a couple of minutes, but when we went in the lead we relaxed and enjoyed the game. When you have so much of the ball it will turn into chances, so I’m very pleased.

“We’ve got some vital minutes on the pitch for some of our first team players and that’s very important as we’re near the start of the season, whereas we finished with a 16 year-old on at the end so it was a true ‘development game’ in every sense.”

Steve reserved his final words for the 16-year old; first year Academy player Kedesh Goddard, who played the entire second half in a composed manner.

“Kedesh came on earlier than expected due to an injury to the outstanding Liam Ridehalgh and all the people around me couldn’t believe it when we said he was 16! He was tenacious and his performance was full of quality. He should go home a happy bunny tonight and tell his family all about it.”
