B TEAM: TOWN SCORE SEVEN IN BIG CENTRAL LEAGUE WIN

29 March 2023

Big Central League win for our Young Terriers against Preston North End

- Huddersfield Town B 7-1 Preston North End
- Town score five in first half
- Brace from Kyle Hudlin from bench in second half

Huddersfield Town’s B Team were victorious in their Central League game on Wednesday afternoon as they scored seven past Preston North End at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex.

Our B Team ran away with all three points at home in the Central League this afternoon as they welcomed Preston North End to the Millers Oils High Performance Complex, thanks to seven goals scored by six different Town players.

Town’s first goal came in the sixth minute from Michael Stone’s direct free kick, taken from outside the box and fired past James Pradic into the back of the net.

Pat Jones fancied his chances next after he received the ball on the left and carried it towards the box as he ran through the Preston defence, he shot from just outside the box but this went high and over the bar.

The youngsters were awarded a second free kick on the opposite side from where the first goal was scored just outside the box, after Jones was brought down. Stone stepped up to take the set-piece but it went just wide of the post, close to curling into the side of the goal.

Kitt Nelson made the score level in the 23rd minute as he slotted the ball into the bottom corner to equalise.

In search to get the edge back, Jones sent a nice through ball to Tyreece Simpson on the side of the box, but his pass into the box to then find Harratt was too far in front for him to run onto. The ball was kept in play and was sent to Harratt once more just outside the box, but his shot was saved by the ‘keeper.

Within the space of five minutes, our youngsters scored a further three goals starting with Town’s second goal came from Scott High after the ball was played through from this afternoon’s captain, which allowed High to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

This was followed by Harratt’s goal in the 33rd minute after Jones crossed the ball into the box with the outside of his boot, which meant the forward could leap onto the ball at the far post and head it into the opposite corner of the net.

Myles Bright made it 4-1 in the 36th minute as he shot from outside the box and fired the ball past Pradic and increased our advantage.

Late first half action saw Jones force a save from Pradic in injury time and Simpson score our fifth goal after found himself through on goal to slot the ball into the back of the net and sent us into the break with a four goal lead.

Kyle Hudlin came off the bench for the second half and made his presence known immediately as a great header from him flicked the ball onto an oncoming Harratt, who then ran one-on-one with Preston’s ‘keeper. Instead of shooting, the forward squared the ball towards Hudlin but this blocked and knocked out for a Town corner.

However, Hudlin scored two minutes later in the 50th minute after a great cross into the box by Midgley meant he could tap the ball into the back of the net.

Jacob Chapman almost got himself an assist when he sent a great low ball to Hudlin in the attacking half, who took a great touch and turned with the ball so he could run towards the box. Lewis Coulton caught up to him and defended well to deny the shot.

A brace for Hudlin came in the 67th minute after the forward took a turn and moved with the ball into the box before he slotted it into he back of the net and made it seven for the Young Terriers.

Great play was shown from our attacking players Hudlin, Stone and Bright to get the ball into the box before Stone eventually received the ball just outside the box and shot, but this went wide of the net.

Not giving up for Preston North End, Kitt Nelson fancied his chances from range, bit this opportunity went well over the bar and out for a goal kick to Town.

In the final minute of the game, second half substitute, Sonny Whittingham found the back of the net but the flag was already up for offside from Cian Philpott’s involvement to get Whittingham the ball.

Despite the offside goal, Town left the game after they secured all three Central League points in a 7-1 thriller.
