B TEAM: FALLS AND HUDLIN SCORE IN WIN OVER BOLTON

28 February 2023

Central League win for our B Team against Bolton Wanderers

- Bolton Wanderers B 0-2 Huddersfield Town B
- Conor Falls scored first goal just before half-time
- Kyle Hudlin secured the win in the final minutes

Huddersfield Town’s B Team were victorious in their Central League game on Tuesday afternoon as they beat Bolton Wanderers away from home.

Our B Team secured all three points in the Central League this afternoon against Bolton Wanderers, through goals from Conor Falls and Kyle Hudlin as they followed on from the previous win against Sheffield United last week.

The game started with the possession shared between the two sides, with neither team making any clear chances.

However, the first chance for the Young Terriers came just after 15 minutes when Hudlin received the ball inside the box and shot from close range, but this chance went high and over the bar.

This was closely followed by a chance from Rolando Aarons, which was so close there was shouts of it being in and crossing the line. The shot from range hit the underneath of the crossbar and bounced behind the Bolton ‘keeper, who was off his line – the shouts came from the Terriers and from the staff on the sidelines, but play continued and the goal wasn’t given.

Just before the half hour mark, a great ball was played through to this afternoon’s captain Ben Midgley, but he was brought down just outside the box and the free kick was given. Aarons stepped up and took the free-kick direct, but this went high and over the bar.

At the other end of the pitch, Mustapha Olagunju stood strong as a shot was fired from range into the Town box, he produced a great defensive header and took the pressure off of Michael Acquah between the sticks.

Our youngsters had another chance towards the end of the first half after a great low cross from Sonny Whittingham was sent into the box and fell to the feet of Aarons, but his shot from close range was fired straight at the Bolton ‘keeper.

In close succession, there was another chance just before the first goal as Aarons carried the ball down the middle of the pitch and sent a lovely through ball to Falls, the striker shot first time but Ellis Litherland reacted well and blocked the shot.

Then, in the 44th minute, Town took the lead through the Northern Ireland U19 international. Falls received the ball inside the box and found the back of the net from close range just before the half-time whistle.

In the opening moments of the second half, Michael Acquah produced two great saves – he sent Gio Loureiro’s shot out for a corner and then scooped up the shot from Sonny Sharples shot from the edge of the box.

Hudlin and second half substitute Myles Bright played a lovely one-two inside the box, but the eventual shot from Bright from the edge of the box was blocked by Bolton’s defence.

After Tom Iorpenda’s shot from range was blocked by the defensive line, Bolton Wanderers used the opportunity to go on the counter-attack, which saw a shot from Wes Frimpong go well wide of Acquah’s net.

In the 88th minute, minutes before the final whistle, Hudlin secured the win. The striker received the ball and hit the ball first time from close range into the back of the net and doubled Town’s lead.
