Both the Huddersfield Town Academy sides are in action this weekend with Leigh Bromby’s Under-18 side kicking off the action on Saturday morning.

Town’s Under-18s will visit Yorkshire rivals Barnsley for a game at Barnsley’s Training Complex in an 11am kick off. Lead by Martin Devaney, the Tykes currently sit second bottom of the U18 Professional Development North Division, one place above Crewe Alexandra. Devaney’s side will be looking to build on the 3-1 victory they recorded over Hull City in their first game of 2018.

Leigh Bromby’s side sit second place in the PDL North Division and will be looking to bounce back from the 4-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of Birmingham City in their first game of 2018 last weekend.

Mark Hudson will take his Under-23 side for his first official game as U23s Coach with Hull City the visitors at PPG Canalside on Sunday at 11.30am.

Sunday’s clash will be the Under-23s first game in just shy of a month, with their last game ending in a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra with midfielder Lewis O’Brien on target for the Terriers. Hudson’s side sit ninth place in the PDL table having racked up 16 points from their opening 15 games of the campaign.

Hull City sit in fifth place in the table on 23 points; four places above the Terriers. Lead by Jon Beale, his side were last in action on Thursday with the clash against Town’s West Yorkshire rivals, Leeds United ending in a 4-3 defeat.

Supporters can come and watch the Under-23s game at PPG Canalside on Sunday for just £1; with a team sheet included for the cost of entry. If you can’t make the game, then you can follow updates on both games over the weekend via Town’s dedicated Academy Twitter account @htafcacademy.

Leigh Bromby & Mark Hudson both spoke to #HTTV this week following the announcement of their new roles within the Academy setup.

MATCH REPORT: TOWN UNDER-23s 2-1 HULL CITY

14 January 2018

Huddersfield Town’s Under-23s side got off to a winning start in 2018 beating Hull City 2-1 at PPG Canalside.

Goals from both Rekeil Pyke and Lewis O’Brien earned Mark Hudson his first win in charge of the Terriers after he was appointed as the U23s Coach at the start of the month.

Hudson’s side included Michael Hefele and Philip Billing who are both working on their match fitness after returning from injury last weekend against Bolton Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup. The pair both played 65 minutes for the young side.

Whilst the line-up also included goalkeeper Rory Brown who is on trial from Wolves.

Despite dominating the opening proceedings of the game, Town’s youngsters fell behind in the 31st minute – a goal which came completely against the run of play.

The opening strike didn’t deter Mark Hudson’s side, who continued in the same vein dominating the proceedings and creating opportunities.

Just before half-time the scores were level after another well worked move. Philip Billing sprayed the ball to Lewis O’Brien, who threaded an inch perfect pass to Rekeil Pyke in the area. The striker, who recently returned from his loan spell at Port Vale, picked up the ball and drilled a superb left footed effort into the back of the net.

An equally as good second half performance followed. Under-23s Captain O’Brien, who set up the first, scored the winner for the youngsters in the 52nd minute. The midfielder latched onto a through ball from Dom Tear and placed the ball past the ‘keeper.

Highlights from the match at PPG Canalside will be available next week on #HTTV.
