Huddersfield Town Under-23s return to action on Monday afternoon as they travel to Cheshire to face Crewe Alexandra for a 1pm kick-off.

Town’s Under-23 side currently sit second bottom of the Professional Development League North division, one place above West Yorkshire Rivals Leeds United at the foot of the table.

Monday’s game will be Town’s first taste of action since the 4 December with the last scheduled fixture due to be played away at Nottingham Forest postponed due to a frozen pitch. That last game Town played in saw them defeated 4-2 at PPG Canalside by Sheffield United.

Managed by Alex Norris, Crewe Alexandra U23s are placed similarly to Town in the league standings having accumulated one additional point from their 13 games this season. Crewe have also been out of action since the 4 December, with their last outing them seeing them romp to a 5-2 victory over Town’s Yorkshire rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.

Lewis O’Brien strike sinks the Railwaymen

- Huddersfield Town Under-23s triumph 1-0 over Crewe Alexandra
- Goal scored by Lewis O’Brien
- Highlights on HTTV this week

Huddersfield Town Under-23s signed off 2017 in winning style as a single goal from midfielder Lewis O’Brien was enough to see off Crewe Alexandra at Alexandra Park.

Town’s side included a start for Joel Coleman along with an appearance for Rekeil Pyke, who was eligible to return and play for Town under the terms of his loan deal to Port Vale. Town’s side also included a start for Harry Spratt, who was on work experience and also a place on the bench for trialist Aaron Rowe.

The start of the game saw the host see a lot of the ball up until the pendulum swung in the 21st minute as Town grabbed the opening goal of the game. Midfielder Lewis O’Brien capitalised on a defensive mistake and through on goal coolly slotted the ball home with his left foot to give Town the goal advantage.

Having got the opening, Town grew into the game and could have doubled their lead shortly after as Rekeil Pyke went close for the Terriers. Half time passed, and Crewe came out fighting with a number of chances, including one for Josh Lundstram who fired wide seven minutes into the second half.

Despite some probing play from Crewe, the Terriers defended strongly and held out to sign off 2017 with a win. The next game for the Under-23s doesn’t take place until Monday 15 January when they welcome Hull City to PPG Canalside.

Town’s Starting Line-up (4-2-3-1):
Joel Coleman; Harry Spratt, Romoney Crichlow-Noble, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Jordan Thomas; Lewis O’Brien, Scott High (Isaac Marriott, 77’); Matty Daly, Olly Dyson, Dom Tear (Aaron Rowe, 58’); Rekeil Pyke (Micah Obiero, 58’)
