HARRATT BAGS A BRACE IN LATEST U19 GAME

9 September 2020

Young striker nets two in eventful game at Canalside

- Huddersfield Town Under-19s take on Sheffield Wednesday
- Striker Kian Harratt scores a brace in 3-2 defeat
- Young Terriers back in action next week

Huddersfield Town’s Under-19s stepped up their pre-season preparations with a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Canalside on Wednesday afternoon.

Following a goalless first half, which saw Jon Worthington’s side enjoy the better of proceedings, Town were twice forced to come from behind in the second period through the clinical left foot of Kian Harratt.

With both sides pressing for a winner late on, it was the visitors who won it at the death as the home side were caught out through a swift counter-attack.

The Young Terriers enjoyed the better of the first half and went close to breaking the deadlock inside the opening 15 minutes. A neat one-two involving Sam Sharrock-Peplow and Ilounga Pata allowed the latter in behind the Wednesday defence. His attempted cross almost caught the ‘keeper out as it cannoned off the near post.

Town then struck the woodwork for a second time, as their lion’s share of possession began to fashion a string of openings. Jaheim Headley showed some excellent footwork down the left to work some space in the area, before striking an effort at goal that beat the ‘keeper, but not the post.

The youngsters then went close again twice in as many minutes through a substitute trialist and Pata, but neither were able to break the deadlock as the two sides entered the interval goalless.

The home side struggled to find the same intensity at the beginning of the second half and went behind for the first time, courtesy of an unstoppable effort from the edge of the area.

That goal seemed to kick the Young Terriers into gear again and Harratt fired in a Town leveller from the penalty spot after Sharrock-Peplow showed great reactive pressure in the visitors’ box, before Wednesday took the lead for a second time with 20 minutes to play.

Harratt displayed his clinical instinct in front of goal when he picked up a Myles Bright pass on the edge of the box, shifting the ball onto his left foot and firing home a powerful effort into the corner.

Town’s number nine twice went close to his hat trick following his second leveller of the afternoon but it was the away side who won it late on with the Young Terriers caught high up the field in search of a winner of their own.
