UNDER-17S SHOW FIGHTING SPIRIT IN COMEBACK WIN

20 October 2019

Young Terriers deal with a setback excellently

- Young Terriers show their character to deal with a first half setback
- Kian Harratt and Sam Sharrock-Peplow make positive impact with the Under-17s
- Jon Worthington happy with the development of his squad

Kian Harratt and Sam Sharrock-Peplow were on the score sheet as Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s earned a deserved 2-1 win against Grimsby Town in the EFL Youth Alliance on Saturday.

The away side had pulled ahead in the first half from the penalty spot, however the Young Terriers’ focus on performance paid off as they flipped the match on its head in the dying embers.

Harratt made an impact from the bench, unleashing a fine strike from outside the box to level to the score, all before Sharrock-Peplow (pictured above) finished off a swift counter-attack to earn the points for Jon Worthington’s side.

This left the Young Terriers’ Coach very happy with his players and the resilience they showed to get themselves back into the tie.

“In terms of what we’ve covered before about dealing with setbacks, I’m really pleased,” he said. “We showed good fight to get a result and that’s another boxed ticked for me.

“At half time we talked about the things you must do well; reacting, implementing a high fight zone and working hard, and in the second half they stepped up.

“We’ve been a bit depleted in recent matches with players on international duty, so it was nice to bring a few subs on to freshen it and reinforce those points.

“It’s a squad game and everyone contributed today. That was the difference and allowed us to get a foothold in the game.”

Next up for the Young Terriers’ is an away trip to Lincoln City next Saturday, this time in the Youth Alliance Cup.

“We’ve already had a good look at Lincoln from when we played in the league,” Worthy continued.

“It should be a totally different contest. We’ll have an Under-18 side out as it’s a ‘performance’ game for us, so it should be a lot closer this time.”
