U17S CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON THEIR PLAY ON THE PITCH

23 January 2020

Young Terriers working on playing through the midfield

- Young Terriers welcome Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 25 January
- Huddersfield Town’s U17s creating goal scoring opportunities
- Supporters can attend

Jon Worthington’s Under-17s will be working on playing through the midfield when they take on Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 25 January 2020.

As games for the Under-17s’ continue to come thick and fast, they’re currently working on a six-week block of playing on the pitch, which they’ll continue to put into practice when they welcome Doncaster Rovers to PPG Canalside on Saturday.

Huddersfield Town’s Academy Apprentice George Danaher commented on what the Under-17s’ are gaining from this block of training.

“The theme for this block of training is ‘create’, so we’re playing through the midfield to try and create goal scoring opportunities.

“We’ve designed a lot of training practices that are about trying to get the midfielders on the ball in effective positions to try and score some goals.

“There’s been a lot of work on midfield players receiving the ball to play forward, so there’s been emphasis on the body shape, the first touch and then the strikers’ movement to try and get in behind.”

Danaher also spoke about how the youngsters play has improved since this new block of training came into play.

“Overall the lads have done really well with it.

“They’ve taken all the information on board and gone out and practiced by themselves on what they’ve got to do to create those chances and get the better of teams.”

The game will kick-off at 11am at PPG Canalside on Saturday 25 January 2020 and supporters are welcome to attend.

YOUNG TERRIERS CAN LEARN A LOT FROM DONCASTER GAME

27 January 2020

Under-17s to keep focusing on possession and create elements of their game

- Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s took on Doncaster Rovers
- Young Terriers worked on possession in the create phase
- Comments from Coach Jon Worthington

Huddersfield Town’s youngsters continued their development as they tried to implement their possession-based game against Doncaster Rovers.

The latest coaching block for the Under-17s has been based around the ‘create’ phase with the youngsters working on possession and chance creation alongside their original fundamentals.

They were tasked to bring that into the Doncaster Rovers game and showed some positive elements in the opening 45 minutes.

“The basic fundamentals like the fight zones and decision making were ok in the first half and the lads were able to show what we’d been working on in training,” said Jon Worthington.

“They tried to show their ability on the ball in possession, but in all honesty had some poor moments with that.

“We will analyse those moments with the players, show them what they did well and what needs improvement.”

The game also showed Worthy a lot about the youngsters’ characters. The Young Terriers conceded four goals in a 20-minute spell, which is something that’s hard for any side to take.

Town’s Under-17 Coach explained how the experience will benefit the youngsters in the long run.

“For me that second half gave me a real insight into the personalities in the group, which is really valuable going forward.

“I think for them they will have learnt that in that moment. They now know that you need to regroup, stick together and do the basic fundamentals to stop conceding.

“Also, in situations like that you need those characters that will lift the spirits or more voices on the pitch and that’s something that they can all take from this match.”
