Academy Manager, Leigh Bromby, commented on how the two games will be beneficial for the players.
“The FA Youth Cup is the most prestigious competition in Under-18 Academy football and it’s important that we give our squad the best possible chance to prepare for the challenge that Chelsea will pose in mid-December.
“We’ll field an Under-18 side against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, which will encompass scholars from our regular Under-19 and Under-17 sides. It’s important to give the players the chance to build relationships on the pitch and further their understanding of how their teammates play.
“At the same time, the Youth Alliance game against Mansfield will give the Under-17s the chance to apply the work they’ve been putting in under Jon Worthington in a match situation, which is really important to their development.”
The U17s travel to Mansfield for their EFL Youth Alliance fixture. Kick-off is 11.30am at The RH Academy, NG19 7RT.
The U18s travel to Blackburn’s Brockhall Training Ground, BB6 8FA. Kick-off is 11am.
