Town equalise in the second half vs Norwich City at the John Smith’s Stadium

Town drew 1-1 against Norwich City in the Sky Bet Championship after scoring an equaliser in the second half to secure a point at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Martyn Waghorn’s measured chip resulted in an own goal by Grant Hanley in the 65th minute and, despite being the more dominant side towards the end of the second half, Town finished with a point at home in the Sky Bet Championship.

It was the Terriers who had the first chance of the game in the second minute after Danny Ward chipped the ball to Jack Rudoni in the box, but Rudoni’s first touch on the ball caught a deflection and Angus Gunn collected it before he could get a shot away.

After the opening minutes were fairly even, Norwich City had their first chance of the game in the 14th minute after Kenny McLean played a one-two inside the box with Josh Sargent, getting a shot in from a narrow angle, but it went across the face of goal and just wide of the post for a Town goal kick.

Ben Gibson fancied his chances from range for the Canaries and shot from well outside the box, but Tomáš Vaclík tipped the attempt over the bar and out for a corner – which McLean headed wide of the Town goal.

The first goal of the game came from Gabriel Sara of Norwich City in the 26th minute after he was crossed the ball inside the box by Adam Idah, he struck the ball first time and finished in the back of the net.

Not letting our confidence be knocked, Town came back with a great chance at the half hour mark as Martyn Waghorn flicked his header on from a goal kick for Josh Koroma to run onto and he then flicked the ball onto Rudoni by the far post but this was defended and knocked out for a corner. The corner eventually fell to the feet of Ben Jackson outside the box, but his shot was deflected out for another corner.

Towards the end of the first half, Town were awarded a free-kick in the attacking half after Jackson was fouled by Marquinhos; the free-kick was taken by Rudoni and he sent a good cross into the box but this was defended well and allowed Norwich City to go on the counter-attack, which the Terriers ultimately defended well.

Town went into the break behind, but came back out in the second half with great effort and ready to get back into the game.

Jackson was fouled just outside the Norwich City box, which Waghorn stepped up to take and hit over the bar.

On the front foot and on the hunt for an equaliser, Koroma sent a through ball to Ward in the box but his shot from the edge of the box took a deflection off Max Aarons and went out for a corner. This corner once again fell to the feet of Jackson and his first time shot was blocked.

Town’s equaliser came in the 60th minute after a defensive mistake, Koroma sent a long ball to Waghorn on his own in the middle in front of the box and he chipped an oncoming Angus Gunn, his effort came off the post and was deflected into the back of the net off of Grant Hanley.

Jack Rudoni found space from last soon after and facnied his chances to score, shoting from outside the box - despite connecting well, the ball went high and over the bar. This was soon followed by a break that saw Michał Helik put through by Brahima Diarra who was excellent off the bench, but the defender couldn't get a shot in before the defence tracked back to him.

Norwich City were at a man disadvantage just after the 90 minute mark with a red card shown to Marquinhos in the first minute of injury time after a dangerous challenge in the air on Josh Ruffels - the on loan man's arm made a strong connection with the left back's face.

The final action of the game saw a free-kick for the Terriers in the attacking half as McLean tripped Michał Helik.
