PREVIEW: LUTON TOWN (H)

14 May 2022

All you need to know ahead of Monday's game

- Huddersfield Town vs Luton Town preview
- Tickets still available for Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg
- Watch on Sky Sports or listen on iFollow

Huddersfield Town return to Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final action on Monday 16 May 2022, as they welcome Luton Town to the John Smith's Stadium for the second leg; 7.45pm kick-off.

Both sides saw out a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road on Friday evening, as Sonny Bradley's strike cancelled out Danel Sinani's early effort.

THE OPPOSITION

Similarly to Town, Luton have exceeded expectations this season.

The Bedfordshire Club were a non-league side as recently as 2014, and have been on the rise since the appointment of Nathan Jones in 2016.

By the end of Jones’ first stint in 2019, he had inspired the Hatters to two promotions, taking them from League Two to the Championship.

Coming into this game with the scoreline level, it's bound to be an entertaining second leg.

ONES TO WATCH

Harry Cornick

Cornick signed for Luton on a two-year contract from AFC Bournemouth in August 2017, going on to net his first goal in a 4-1 away win at Exeter City in October 2017. The forward has since gone on to become one of the home side’s best known players, and certainly one of their most dangerous. The 2020/21 season saw the 27-year-old win Goal of the Season, Bobbers Travel Away Player of the Season, Junior Supporters’ Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season trophies, after a maiden campaign in the Championship which saw him finish as the Club’s second leading scorer with nine goals. This season has seen Cornick add 12 goals and five assists to his name in 39 appearances, including the all important winner against Reading that sealed their spot in the Play-Offs.

James Bree

The right back initially joined the Hatters on a season-long loan from Aston Villa in August 2019, making his Luton debut as a 74th-minute substitute in a 2–1 away defeat to Cardiff City just two days later. Bree went on to contribute five assists as Luton avoided relegation to League One on the final day of the season. Having impressed, the 24-year-old completed a permanent transfer to Luton on 1 September 2020. This season has seen Bree make 43 appearances, with one goal and six assists to his name. Despite suffering an ankle injury against Cardiff City last month, the defender returned to play a full 90 minutes for the Hatters against Reading on the final day of the regular season.

Kal Naismith

The 30-year-old signed for the Hatters in January 2021, having left Wigan Athletic by mutual consent. The centre back scored his first goal for Luton the following month, in a 3-2 win against Sheffield Wednesday, before going on to make a further 21 league appearances. The 2021/22 campaign has seen Naismith score two goals and bag seven assists in 43 appearances for the Club. Luton’s recent Supporters Trust 2021/22 awards saw the Scotsman scoop gongs for Goal of the Season, Player of the Season, and Players’ Player of the Season.
