Huddersfield Town travel to Ewood Park in the Sky Bet Championship for their first game of 2022, when they take on Blackburn Rovers on 2 January 2022; 2pm kick-off.

Town come into the game off the back of their third successive win, a 1-0 victory away over Nottingham Forest on Thursday 30 December 2021.

Blackburn Rovers also come into the game having won last time, as they saw out a 2-1 win over Barnsley on Wednesday 29 December 2021.

THE OPPOSITION

Blackburn Rovers find themselves third in the Championship, just three points outside of the automatic promotion places.

Blackburn have enjoyed an impressive recent run, winning each of their last five games in the league, including an impressive 0-2 win at table toppers Bournemouth.

Managed by Tony Mowbray, Rovers possess one of the most potent attacks in the league with only Fulham scoring more goals this season.

Rovers will be out for revenge at Ewood Park this Sunday, following Town’s 3-2 victory over them in the reverse fixture in October 2021.

ONES TO WATCH

DARRAGH LENIHAN

Leniham has been a constant in Rovers back line throughout the season, missing only two games so far. The 6’2 centre back is entering his tenth season as a Blackburn player, where he has made over 200 appearances for the Club. Having represented Republic of Ireland at various levels, Lenihan made his full international debut in June 2018 against USA. Lenihan has a physical and aerial presence in both boxes, with his goal scoring ability from set plays making him a threat that Town will have to be cautious of.

TYRHYS DOLAN

Blackburn’s number 10 is enjoying his second season with Rovers, having signed from Preston North End in 2020. Dolan has four goals and three assists in all competitions for Blackburn this season, with three of his goals coming in league games. The 20-year-old’s versatility across the forward line is a great asset for Tony Mowbray’s side, having played on the right, through the middle, and as a centre forward so far this season.

LEWIS TRAVIS

Having spent a decade with Liverpool’s Academy, Travis signed for Blackburn in 2014 to link up with their youth team. The 24-year-old made his First Team debut in 2017, before breaking into the starting 11 in December 2018. The midfielder has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for Rovers, scoring three times. Travis has featured in every game so far this season, with his solidity in midfielder allowing Blackburn’s array of attacking options to get forward, whilst he protects the defence.

HOW TO WATCH

Pay on the Day WILL be available for Town fans wishing to travel to Ewood Park, with no price increase.

There are no longer any tickets available online or at the Ticket Office.

DISABLED SUPPORTERS

Disabled supporters should pay their relevant price category. If a companion is required, they will receive a free ticket.

Ambulant disabled supporters can choose to sit anywhere in the visitor’s section, subject to safety.

COVID-19

As per Government and Public Health England guidelines, supporters will now need to either provide proof of their full vaccination status or a negative lateral flow test – taken within 48 hours of kick-off – to gain entry into the ground.

REPORT: BLACKBURN ROVERS 0-0 TOWN

Town draw at Ewood Park

- Blackburn Rovers 0-0 Town
- Six unbeaten in Sky Bet Championship
- Back-to-back clean sheets for the Terriers

Huddersfield Town started the New Year off with a point, seeing out a 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship.

An end-to-end game through, particularly in the second half, torrential rain wreaked havoc on the pitch at Ewood Park.

The first chance of the game fell to the hosts in the seventh minute. Reda Khadra got in behind Colwill, but saw his shot cannon straight back off the crossbar and out for a goal kick!

The pitch was causing havoc for Town, with an excellent run from Duane Holmes halted by the ball catching under his feet.

Scott High picked up the Terriers’ first yellow card of the game in the 14th minute following a late sliding tackle.

Town’s first chance of the game came in the 22nd minute, and it was a big one! Holmes got onto the end of cross from Harry Toffolo with a wonderful diving header, but it was straight at Thomas Kaminski.

The game slowed for a period, with both sides working hard to keep hold of the ball.

Danel Sinani tried his luck in the 43rd minute, but his left footed effort didn’t trouble Kaminski.

The second half got off to a much faster pace, with both sides taking it in turns to attack, but neither being able to find a clear-cut chance.

Another big chance fell Town’s way courtesy of Holmes in the 62nd minute. An excellent ball from Scott High allowed the midfielder to get free and clear in the box, but he could only hit the side netting!

The 76th minute saw Blackburn handed a free kick in a prime shooting position as Lewis O’Brien was penalised for a foul just outside the box. Thankfully, Joe Rothwell’s effort curled over the bar.

Town’s second yellow of the game followed moments later, as Holmes was booked for a foul on Tyrhys Dolan in the Blackburn box.

The game became end-to-end as the game came into its final 10 minutes, with Sorba Thomas showcasing an incredible block in the 82nd minute to clear Sam Gallagher’s header.

Just moments later, it was Matty Pearson’s turn to stop the hosts’ attack in its tracks!

Blackburn continued to pile on the pressure, with Lee Nicholls plucking Ben Brereton Diaz’s cross out of the air.

Gallagher found another effort for the hosts blocked, this time by Colwill!

Thankfully, Town did enough to keep off Blackburn, and start off the New Year with a Sky Bet Championship point.
