Date of birth
Carel Eiting joined Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan from Ajax in September 2020.
Born in Amsterdam on 11 February 1998, Carel joined Ajax’s Academy at a young age, progressing through the age groups before breaking into the Under-19 side in the 2014/15 season.
Having featured in the prestigious UEFA Youth League in his opening campaign, he established himself in the Under-19 side and helped the team win the Dutch title in 2016.
2016/17 saw Carel take another step forward in his development. He still captained the youth team as it reached the Europa Youth League quarter finals, but he also played 31 times for Ajax’s second team in the Dutch second division.
He also made his first appearance in a senior Ajax squad as an unused substitute, and he only had to wait until the next season for his full debut; that came as a substitute in a 3-1 home win over Excelsior on 14 December 2017, at the age of 19.
Eiting’s first Ajax start followed in February 2018; one of four appearances that season, during which he was in the squad for European games too. When not with the First Team squad, he helped Jong Ajax secure the Dutch Second Division title.
2018/19 started well for Carel. As well as earning international caps with the Netherlands Under-21 side, he played five games in the early Champions League rounds, getting an assist in the 3-0 home win over AEK Athens.
He also looked to have established himself in the First Team, playing the first seven games, before ankle and knee injuries curtailed his season. Despite this, he still received a league winner’s medal with Ajax.
The Eredivisie was abandoned last season due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but beforehand Carel had made 10 further First Team appearances and another 12 for the second team.
