Tyreece Simpson arrived at Huddersfield Town on the up after a successful 2021/22 campaign.

Born in Ipswich in February 2002, Tyreece grew up over the border in Norfolk and excelled at several sports as a youngster.

Representing Great Yarmouth and District Athletics Club, he posted a personal best time of 11.2 seconds in the 100m as a teenager whilst also representing Langley School in rugby union as a flying winger, helping the team win a national competition at Twickenham in March 2018.

His performances caught the eye of Premiership side Leicester Tigers, who offered him a professional contract that same month. However, football was Tyreece’s real love and he turned that down to pursue his current career, eventually joining Ipswich Town’s Academy as a scholar later that same year.

Simpson progressed quickly and didn’t have to wait long for his senior debut, which came in a Papa John’s Trophy game against Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-23 side in September 2019. His league debut soon followed in February 2020 – one of a total of two starts and five substitutes he made for the Tractor Boys ahead of today’s move to West Yorkshire.

His first professional contract was signed at Portman Road in March 2020 – a two-year deal with a Club option for the 2022/23 season.

Tyreece left for his first loan move in July 2021, joining Sky Bet League 2 side Swindon Town. In the process, he became a teammate of current Town loanee Kaine Kelser-Hayden and B Team defender Romoney Crichlow. The left-footed striker made an immediate impression in the first half of the season, with 11 goals in 28 starts helping the Robins cement a position in the Play-Off positions.

Ipswich recalled him in January 2022 and subsequently took their contractual option before today’s transfer, which will give Tyreece a first shot at Sky Bet Championship football.

In his debut season with Town, Simpson made nine Sky Bey Championship appearances.
