Michał Helik arrived at Huddersfield Town on the back of two seasons with Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley in the summer of 2022.

Born on 9 September 1995 in Chorzów, Poland, Helik started his career at Ruch Chorzów and then made his top-flight debut in September 2013 where he played the full 90 minutes of a game at Jagiellonia Białystok. This was one of eight appearances in his debut season and the side finished third.

In July 2017, the defender moved across the Ekstraklasa to join Cracovia, where he scored eight goals in 32 appearances in his debut season his new Club. This was followed by another 32 appearances in the 2018/19 season as the side finished fourth.

Cracovia won the Polish Cup in the 2019/20 season for the first time in the Club’s history.

After 101 appearances and 11 goals, the six-foot-three defender moved to England to join Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley. Helik scored five goals in 45 games for the Tykes as they reached the Play-Off semi-finals and was named Barnsley’s Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season.

During his two seasons in South Yorkshire, Helik made 89 appearances and scored eight goals.

The 26-year-old was part Poland’s Euro 2020 squad in the summer of 2021, although he was an unused sub for all three group games. Helik made his international debut in March 2021 against Hungary in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier, and he now has seven caps under his belt. 

His first season with the Terriers (2022/23) saw the defender win the Hargreaves Memorial Player fo the Year award after his standout performances in the back line to help Town secure Sky Bet Championship safety. Helik became a fan favourite early on in the season and even scored two goals and did the double over Hull City.
