Experienced full-back joins for the rest of the season
- Huddersfield Town signs full-back Danny Simpson
- Defender puts pen-to-paper on a one-year contract
- Premier League winner brings vast experience of top two divisions
Huddersfield Town have today completed the signing of free agent Danny Simpson until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The 32-year-old right-back has trained with the Terriers for the past two weeks and has impressed Town’s management duo of Danny and Nicky Cowley.
Simpson departed Leicester City at the conclusion of last season after five successful years with the Foxes. He has made 213 appearances in the Premier League during his career for a combination of Leicester City, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and his first club, Manchester United; 30 of which came in Leicester’s Premier League winning season of 2014/15.
He has also won promotion from the Sky Bet Championship on three occasions; with Sunderland in 2007, Newcastle United in 2010 and Queens Park Rangers in 2014.
Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley commented:
“We’re very happy to welcome Danny to Huddersfield Town today.
“In his two weeks with us, we’ve seen first-hand his winning mentality and the leadership qualities he will add to our group.
“He’s a fantastic defender who is great in one-on-one situations, as well as being positionally excellent. He will make a significant impact on the team this season.
“We’ve got some good young full backs at this Club and they will really benefit from his experience and know-how too.”
Simpson will take the number 17 shirt at the Club – the same number he wore when winning the Premier League title.
