Huddersfield Town can confirm that defender Tommy Elphick will undergo surgery on his knee after suffering an injury in the game against Preston North End.

The centre-back came off after 20 minutes against the Lilywhites after he was fouled by a Preston midfielder.

Scans have subsequently revealed that Tommy has suffered ligament damage to his right knee and will need surgery.

The 31-year-old will have surgery on Monday 18 November 2019, which will determine the length of time he is unavailable for.

Once this has been assessed, he will work closely with the Medical Team and Fitness Department.

Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley commented:

“Unfortunately, Tommy’s scans revealed that he needs surgery on his knee. Off the back of this, we will have a clear idea on how long he will be out of action for.

“He was a big part of this team both as a player and a character. We will certainly miss his leadership qualities.

“His focus is now on making the quickest recovery possible. He is a resilient and determined person, so I have no doubt he will return fitter and stronger than ever.”
