Town's summer signing Peter Clarke and Club Ambassador Andy Booth were special guests at a celebration and prizegiving for pupils from Spring Grove Junior, Infant and Nursery School that was held at Huddersfield Town Study Centre on Tuesday evening.
The staff at the centre, which is based in the classroom at The Zone on St. Andrew's Road, held the event to mark the end of a ten week programme of literacy and numeracy that the pupils from the school had been taking part in. Fifteen pupils from the school have attended the centre after school on Tuesdays during this school term and all have made great progress with their English and Maths.
It hasn't been all work, work, work though - the pupils have also been on a tour of the Stadium, have been working out in the Gym, have taken part in a Shakespeare acting workshop led by renowned actor Kieron Jones and have also played football and let off steam on the play area at The Zone.
For all their hard work and determination over the course of the term the pupils each received a range of rewards and prizes from the football club. Each child was given a football, bag and match tickets for the opening home game against Southampton. The most improved pupil was awarded with a football signed by the whole first-team squad.
Huddersfield Town Study Centre is part of the national 'Playing for Success' after school study support project. Pupils from local schools visit the centre after school on weekdays to work on their maths, English and ICT skills. Building confidence, self-esteem and teamworking skills are also important aims of the centre staff.
