YORK CITY 1 TOWN RESERVES 1
York: Gavin Rothery (51)
Town: Danny Cadamarteri (74)
Town Reserves lost their 100% record in the totesport.com league at the KitKat Crescent this evening, but did well to come from behind with a man short against a determined York City side.
Danny Cadamarteri (pictured) netted Town's equalising goal in the second-half after Gavin Rothery scored the opening goal for the home side, but Graham Mitchell's side played the whole of the second-half with just ten men after Keigan Parker was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.
Graham Mitchell's side started the game in the 3-5-2 formation utilised by the first-team against Port Vale on Saturday, with young goalkeeper Eastwood protected by centre-backs Unsworth, Lucketti and Killock. Codman and Kamara were deployed as left and right wing-backs respectively, with Worthington and Berrett playing just behind the advanced Cadamarteri in midfield. Up front, Beckett partnered Parker.
The Terriers enjoyed the majority of possession in the early stages of the game, but it looked like the home side would take an early lead in the 7th minute when striker Boyes broke the offside trap and poked the ball around the advancing Eastwood; however, James Berrett got back to make a fantastic last ditch tackle.
Berrett conceded a corner in the process and from that set-piece, defender Potter's fierce drive forced a splendid reaction save from Eastwood.
York broke on Town once again in the 14th minute, but striker Farrell screwed a right-footed shot well wide from 20 yards out under pressure from Chris Lucketti.
Mitchell's side were delivering the ball into the box from wide areas on several occasions, but found that York 'keeper Mimms was more than capable of claiming high balls.
Danny Cadamarteri did brilliantly to rob Rothery of the ball in the centre circle in the 18th minute before surging towards the York area and laying the ball off to Parker, who slapped a hard drive into the gloves of the home custodian from the edge of the box.
Berrett then headed a right-wing cross from Kamara well wide of goal two minutes later before Unsworth flighted a 25 yard free-kick over the crossbar in the 23rd minute following a foul on the Sierra Leone winger.
Two minutes late Cadamarteri's cross from the left flank fizzed all the way across the York goalmouth before drifting narrowly wide of the far post, just evading Beckett en route.
Town were well on top by this stage in the game, with Keigan Parker's curling effort from twenty yards out being deflected narrowly wide of goal in the 29th minute.
York midfielder Henderson hit a long range drive comfortably wide of Easty's right hand post in the 35th minute.
Young defender Shane Killock went close to scoring in the 41st minute, heading a Parker free-kick from the left side over the crossbar after an initial foul on Luke Beckett.
SENDING OFF - On the stroke of the 45th minute, Town were reduced to ten men as Keigan Parker was shown a red card by referee Davison. The Town striker was fouled on the right touchline by big defender Potter and reacted to an arm across his face by kicking out at the York man. The referee didn't hesitate in showing Keigan a straight red for the offence.
HALF-TIME: YORK CITY 0 TOWN RESERVES 0
Graham Mitchell shuffled his pack a little during the interval, with the Terriers adopting a 4-3-2 formation - Malvin Kamara effectively playing on his own down the right flank and Codman playing as a left winger alongside Worthington and Berrett.
Town started very brightly, with Cadamarteri seeing a shot blocked inside the area as early as the 49th minute before Codman fired narrowly wide from the rebound.
GOAL - York took the lead in the 51st minute through Gavin Rothery. The midfielder was given the ball to the right side of Simon Eastwood's goal after a patient passing move from the home side, which eventually culminated in him stepping onto his left foot in space and curling the ball around the helpless Eastwood and into the far corner of the goal.
SUB - Town made their first substitution of the game in the 56th minute, bringing on Danny Broadbent to replace James Berrett.
Town created a golden opportunity to equalise in the 57th minute; a good pass from Unsworth out of defence released Worthington into space, who charged into the York half before playing a slide-rule ball to find Cadamarteri's clever run. The former Everton man entered the box, but hit his shot into the chest of goalkeeper Mimms when trying to place the ball into the far corner.
A mistake from Unsworth almost cost the Terriers a second goal in the 68th minute - he received a short pass from his goalkeeper and tried to skip past striker Farrell 25 yards from goal, who robbed him of the ball. Fortunately for Town, the York man placed his shot wide of Eastwood's left hand post.
BOOKING - York striker Adam Boyes was booked in the 70th minute after catching Kamara with a late challenge as the temporary right-back cleared the ball up the line.
GOAL - Town equalised in the 74th minute through a great individual strike from Danny Cadamarteri. The Town striker picked up a loose ball 30 yards from goal after left-back Killock had won a defensive header and drove inside from the left wing, beating two men. He eventually reached the edge of the York box, where he drove the ball low and hard to the goalkeeper's left and into the net.
SUB - York immediately made a change, bringing on Sam Burns for Darren Kelly.
SUB - Town soon made a second change, with Academy scholar Jack Hunt replacing Jon Worthington in midfield.
York had a rare attempt on goal in the 79th minute, with Boyes turning a near post corner from the right into the waiting hands of Simon Eastwood.
Cadamarteri was causing York a lot of problems with his clever movement and lightening pace and his deflected shot in the 81st minute looped just over the York crossbar. From the resulting corner, Killock's near post header from a Codman delivery struck the post before drifting wide.
BOOKING - York left-back Andy McWilliams was booked with six minutes of the game left after scything down Cadamarteri on the wing.
Cadamarteri was able to continue after some treatment from physio Dave Buckby and he hit a powerful left foot shot straight at the home goalkeeper from the edge of the box a minute later.
Simon Eastwood had to be alert to block a close range Rothery header with his legs in the 88th minute after a cross from the left by Farrell.
