UNBEATEN RESERVES IN ACTION TONIGHT

Posted on: Wed 24 Sep 2008

Andy Holdsworth is set for a second-team outing tonight as Stan Ternent ponders his team selection for Saturday's big League One derby at leaders Oldham Athletic.

The 24-year-old was left out of Saturday's 3-2 home win over Northampton Town with the manager explaining: "I thought he needed a break."

Right-back in the first eight games of the season, Holdsworth will play in midfield against Hartlepool reserves in the totesport.com league game at the Galpharm (7pm kick-off).

That's the position he filled for most of Andy Ritchie's managerial reign, and Ternent, who played Jim Goodwin at right-back against Northampton, added: "Opinion seems to differ about Andy's best role in the team.

"I know he can do a good job anywhere down the right and we'll take a look to see how he does in midfield tonight.

"Versatility is something I like to see in any player, and in my view Andy is a very good professional and a very important part of my squad.

"I just felt he would benefit from a bit of a break last Saturday, and tonight will give him the chance to stretch his legs and maintain match fitness."

Teenage striker Tom Denton will hope for a debut opportunity tonight after being an unused substitute against Scunthorpe United last Wednesday.

Admission to the game is free for season ticket holders who show their booklet at the turnstile; otherwise, admission is priced at £3.50 for adults and £1 for concessions.
