John Dungworth's young Reserve side recorded a welcome first win in fourteen games at Oldham Athletic this evening thanks to a first-half goal from striker Danny Broadbent.

The 2008 League One Apprentice of the Year slid the ball past the Oldham goalkeeper from an acute angle after just 17 minutes following a clever pass from Lucas Akins and his fourth second-string goal of the season proved to be enough to grab all three points.

The Terriers were well worth the win, with the strike partnership of Broadbent and Akins working well in the early stages and creating quite a few chances. Defender Tom Clarke also had a shot cleared off the line as the Terriers bossed the opening half an hour.

Despite having the better of the play over the 90 minutes, Town had to be thankful to goalkeeper Simon Eastwood after he did brilliantly to tip a shot that deflected off Clarke around his post.

One sour note for the watching Andy Ritchie was that Academy left winger Tom Jackson was stretchered off in the first-half after a clash with an Oldham player in midfield. Broadbent was also withdrawn after just half an hour due to a knock on the ankle.

Reserve team manager Dungworth told htafc.com that he was pleased for his players after the game.

"I'm pleased for the lads, as they deserved the win this evening," John explained to the official website. "We played quite well barring a sloppy period just before the interval and I never felt we were in any real danger at the back.

"We started the game in a particularly bright fashion with the strike partnership working particularly well together and then when Broady had to come off, I thought young Dave Heagney did well too.

"Dave Mirfin got through the game comfortably on his return from injury, Lucas created a couple of half chances for himself and the pairing of Joe Skarz and Mitchell Bailey pretty much dominated the midfield. All in all, it was a very pleasing night's work."
