A former Derby Country trainee, Lionel moved to the Club from Championship side Watford in the January 2009 transfer window for an undisclosed fee.
Naturally a right winger, the Nottingham-born flyer is a former England under-19 international and caught the eye of Town boss Lee Clark with a performance for loan club Hereford United against the Terriers back in December 2008.
Lionel left Derby in 2007 after a series of loan spells and joined the Bulls, where his impressive form earned him a move to Watford the following January.
A pacy player who can also be deployed as a striker, Ainsworth has tormented League One defences on a regular basis could be a real asset as the Terriers push for promotion now he has returned to Town from his loan spell at Brentford last season.
