CLARK: WE WANT CONSISTENCY

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

Huddersfield Town Manager Lee Clark talked to htafc.com this morning ahead of Saturday's npower League One game against AFC Bournemouth.

Lee is keen for his team to build upon last weekend's home victory over Charlton Athletic, with consistency the key to a successful season:

"We had a positive result last weekend and a good performance, but we haven't gone overboard about it. Any team that has aspirations of doing well over the course of the season has to be consistent and that means putting runs of wins together," Lee told the Club's official website.

"That is something we will look to try and do this Saturday against Bournemouth, but we know it is going to be a difficult game; they have had a very good start to the season and are doing really well themselves."

The Town boss expects Eddie Howe's side to come to Huddersfield with intentions of taking all three points:

"I'm sure Bournemouth will come here trying to win the football match - they have approached every game so far this season like that. They have some exciting players that are all doing well and the Club is on the up, just as it has been for the last couple of seasons. They have had different scenarios due to their financial situation, but they have all done their jobs on the football field and have been very successful."

Clark will be forced into a minimum of two changes to his starting line-up due to international call-ups:

"Scott Arfield and Graham Carey are away on international duty, so there will be a couple of changes to be made. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that Lee Peltier will come back into his normal position at right back and then I have a decision to make about who replaces Graham - there are a few options available to me on that front."

With Gary Naysmith struggling with a toe injury, young left back Liam Ridehalgh looks set to continue in defence:

"Liam was terrific last weekend, so now we have to try and get that again. That's the situation with young players - you have to get them playing to a high level week in, week out. We hope that he will continue in the same form as his debut.

"He is a quiet boy and he just gets on with his work. He came back for pre-season looking very physically strong and eager for first team football. He enjoys his defending; he's very similar to Lee Peltier in that sense that they both don't enjoy being beaten by their opponent and they enjoy the defensive side of the game, which is unusual for a modern day footballer.

"We hope he continues with his development and continues to show the quality he has already."

The other debutant last weekend - Alan Lee - should also feature.

"Alan Lee showed why we have been pursuing him for a long time last weekend - it started last season, as Dean and I were at the game when he scored to keep Crystal Palace up at Sheffield Wednesday. We could see then how he would benefit our football club and our team.

"I've been lucky, because we have done our permanent signings in the summer transfer windows and, in most cases, very early on to help them integrate into the group. However, the transfer window is gone now so we have to crack on and concentrate with the football.

"I may have to look at the loan scenario because at the moment all our injured players are from the defensive unit. In terms of natural defenders we are a little bit short, so that may be a route I have to consider."

Clark also explained that definitive news on Naysmith's injury should follow shortly:

"We know a little bit about Gary, but we're not prepared to divulge anything yet as there are a few possibilities we need to talk about as a medical department, manager and player. That will all come out in due course."
