htafc.com talked to Town boss Stan Ternent in the aftermath of tonight's 2-1 Carling Cup defeat to Sheffield United at the Galpharm Stadium and he explained that he was happy with the performance, if not the result.

The Terriers dominated the majority of the game but fell afoul of two goals in three second-half minutes, so would the Gaffer agree that you do not always get what you deserve in football?

"I think that sums it up perfectly," Stan concurred. "I thought we performed extremely well and had a really good go but the breaks are not going for us at the moment. If I'm going to be critical, the only thing we need to do is to be more clinical as we had a number of opportunities to get the second goal. We need to put a bit more quality on the end of things to kill games. That is why goal scorers, who put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis, cost more than anybody else.

"I'm very happy with them, but extremely disappointed for them as well because I know they deserved more out of the game.

"I picked the right side tonight and every one of them impressed me. I wouldn't disagree with the sponsors who gave Nathan Clarke the Man of the Match award, but either one of (Michael) Flynn or his partner in crime in the middle (Jon Worthington) could have got it too. Sheffield United are a very good side and are probably destined for the Premier League, but we have given it our best shot and deserved more out of the game.

"I know the players are good enough and I think I know what my best team is, but when they don't perform to their capabilities that can raise a bit of a problem. However, tonight I'm delighted with them; they are a fantastic set of lads, but we just have to get better."

Keigan Parker made his full Town debut this evening and impressed in attack, but the Terriers boss feels he still has room for improvement.

"Keigan is lively, but he has to learn to play with people around him in order to get better than he is. He's a dangerous customer.

"That is the sort of performance that I expect every week. We need that sort of endeavour and commitment so that we can channel it into the style and shape that we want to play, we'll be fine.

"Now we have to concentrate on the League until the FA Cup or the Johnstone's Paint Trophy come around. The lads will be in tomorrow and we'll see where they are, but we travel south early Friday morning in order to miss the traffic. They are training on Friday afternoon and we'll prepare for the game properly."

The transfer window closes at the end of August and the Gaffer revealed he was usurped on a deal at the last minute early this week.

"I got done up by an agent yesterday; I had sorted out a transfer for (Dominic) Green, but he's ended up going to Peterborough. It was done and dusted and he came up on Saturday to watch the game, so maybe that put him off a bit!

"It was a big move for the kid as he's just gone 19 and half his medical was done, but I told him to go away and really think about it over the weekend. It was all set up for him to come up at 3pm yesterday and sign but I got a call telling me the move had been hijacked.

"I would have liked to have wished him luck as I'm not a vindictive person, but I can't bring myself to do it as he's let everyone down around the place. If they don't want to play for us, then fair enough. I hope the agent got a bit of extra money.

"I have a few other bits and pieces going on, but other clubs are interested in the same players as me. We will see."
