JEPSON: "IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO GET A WIN"
htafc.com caught up with happy Assistant Manager Ronnie Jepson to get his views on the 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Championship side Sheffield United at the Galpharm Stadium.
"The lads played themselves right and it's always nice to get a win under your belt pre-season," Ronnie admitted. "But like the Gaffer says, it's not so much about the result; it's about the shape and the balance, getting the fitness levels and hopefully coming away unscathed, which we have done today.
"It's nice to win and I'm sure the lads will be feeling better about themselves tonight. We still have to improve on one or two things and we are working on it. The lads are still getting to know the Gaffer and myself and we are getting to know one or two of them and hopefully we will be there or there abouts come next week.
"We were reasonably happy with the shape, but we're not going overboard with them yet. We have still got some work to do in order to reach the high standards that the manager sets, but it's still only pre-season and it's now that we have to iron these little problems out."
Town's team featured triallist David Unsworth at left-back and the former Burnley man was impressive and strong in the back four.
"Unsy has come in and he's an experienced pro - one or two other clubs were sniffing around him but we've brought him here on trial. I'm sure he'll be having a chat with the Gaffer this weekend."
Ronnie was also happy with the calibre of the goals scored and with one of the strikers in particular.
"We managed two excellent finishes today and Danny Cadamarteri really deserves that goal. He's been absolutely excellent all pre-season and has come back having looked after himself really well during the summer. He works extremely hard and if anybody deserved a goal today, it was him.
"Keigan came on and finished fantastically, which is what he can do. Their goal was disappointing as Gary Speed ghosted in - which he has done for the whole of his career - but two of our lads were stood still. I won't name names, but they were told in no uncertain terms by the manager!"
So how would Ronnie grade the players on today's performance?
"Overall, I'd give us six and a half - maybe seven out of ten. It doesn't happen overnight; it takes time to come into a Club and turn it around. You have to build the foundations and trust me when I say that the manager knows what it takes. There will be ups and downs and perhaps a few tears along the way, but given some time and patience we will construct a team this Club will be proud of."
