RITCHIE: "ALL THAT MATTERED WAS THE RESULT"
Andy Ritchie talked to htafc.com immediately after the 1-0 home victory over Millwall at the Galpharm Stadium that lifted his side to 13th in League One.
"All that mattered tonight was the result. I know the game wasn't very pretty, but when you are playing against a Millwall side that are really fighting for everything they can get we didn't expect it to be. I think we all have to realise that, although I was a bit disappointed at times as I thought we were playing a bit 'vice versa'; when we should have brought the ball down we knocked it away and when we didn't have time to play football we tried to bring it down.
"We had a few wrong decisions out on the pitch and it was ugly, but we managed to get the three points and after our weekend exploits that is what tonight was all about. I think we may have had a few tired legs after chasing Chelsea players at the weekend, but we managed to pull through at the end.
"I think they only had one real chance - when the ball flashed across the face of our goal in the second half. Matty Glennon has said afterwards that he felt he should have come for that ball.
"There was no argument over who would take the penalty tonight, but I was a little surprised that the offending player stayed on. The referee said that there were two players between Luke and the goal, but the ball rolled through to the goalkeeper. It was debatable.
"I'm very pleased, but the lads are quite disappointed in the changing rooms as they wanted to play better. I've told them that if we want to play good football, they have to be brave enough to do it but sometimes conditions are not conducive to it. The lads being disappointed is a positive thing, but if we have to be ugly in order to grind out results to get us where we want to be then so be it. In the paper tomorrow, it will say that we won the game and kept another clean sheet.
"I think the improvement in our results recently is down to us having a fairly settled side - especially the back four. We'll going to try and keep as many clean sheets from now until the end of the season and if we can do that, we have a chance of getting in the Play-Offs. We've got three clean sheets and three wins in our last three home games and that is what it's all about.
"It's nice that we have jumped a couple of places up the table, but we've still got to play most of the teams above us at home now. We have nine games coming up in March - which is a crazy amount - but that's what we have a squad for.
"Rob Page was back as captain this evening, but if Jon Worthington is on the pitch then he will have the armband as always. I explained to Pagey that we gave Frank the armband last weekend due to his Chelsea connections and not because we lost at Carlisle!
"I think Worthy will be available on Saturday and he won't feature in the Reserves tomorrow, but Danny Cadamarteri may get thirty minutes. We'll see how he feels as we're going to ease him back in as nicely as we can. If we can do that, it will be like having a new player for the end of the season.
"We'll set off for Gillingham on Friday and train on the way, probably at Charlton if it is available."
