htafc.com talked to Town boss Stan Ternent following the Centenary game against Arsenal and he explained that he was pleased with the workout just three days before the start of the new season.

"It's been a good workout in front of a good crowd and it was a decent match," Stan explained.

"The lads only played a half each, so they were not under any duress and our fitness levels are pretty good, although I inherited a pre-season and the way it has been wasn't really my choice. Nevertheless, we've had the best part of five and a half weeks together and we're looking forward to Saturday. The lads are where I want them to be now."

The Gaffer was quick to explain that he felt this game was needed to properly celebrate Town's proud history.

"This friendly is a necessity - it's the Centenary. However, nobody in their right mind would want a game on Wednesday night when the season starts on Saturday, but this was a good workout."

Town's next game comes on Saturday with the League One opener against Stockport County at the Galpharm Stadium and Ternent feels his players are ready.

"I know what my team will be on Saturday, but it's all been up for grabs. I still need another three, four or five players and when I get them I'll start looking for another three - it goes on and on. It's a selection and rejection process. The main thing is Huddersfield Town Football Club and the most important thing here are the players, as they will determine where we are up to. It's not a personal thing, it's just business.

"I'll be ringing a lot of people and others will be calling me, although I've not had many enquiries to be honest. I'll keep working on players until the end of August and then I have to wait until December, which I believe is a restriction of trade. However, they are the rules."

Trialist David Unsworth featured once again this evening - has the Gaffer reached a decision on him yet?

"Yes".

And do we get to find out?

"No, but you will get the news first!"

Hopes are high for a promotion challenge this season and although Stan shares those hopes, he is sure we are in for a hard season.

"It's a tough league. I've come here and everyone wants promotion, but it's not as simple as ordering a fish and chip takeaway or steak pie with curry sauce. It isn't as easy as that, but that's the challenge and I'll do my best. The lads have to rise to that challenge too.

"We needed to get through without injuries and there weren't any nasty tackles, so we've got through without any injuries. Boothy and Michael Flynn still have a chance for Saturday, but I'll know better tomorrow; they were left out in more of a precautionary manner tonight. I don't think Broady (Daniel Broadbent) will be right but other than that we'll have a full compliment.

And can we read anything into tonight's team with regards to the starting eleven on Saturday?

"Read as much or as little as you want into it!"
