ON THIS DAY - 29TH AUGUST
2005
Doncaster Rovers 1 Huddersfield Town 2
Town went to the top of League One on this day in 2005 with a good 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers at their old Belle Vue ground.
Peter Jackson's Terriers got off to the best possible start in the game when Chris Brandon collected a half-cleared Town corner and squeezed a shot home through a narrow gap after just 2 minutes and the half ended on a similarly positive note when midfielder Jon Worthington (pictured) hit a carbon copy of Brandon's goal in the 40th minute.
The travelling Town support would have had a few nerves after Michael McIndoe was brought down by Town shot-stopper Paul Rachubka and dusted himself down to convert the penalty, but those nerves were eased by the 73rd minute dismissal of Rovers striker Lewis Guy for striking Tom Clarke in the face.
Town's Team:
Paul Rachubka, Andy Holdsworth, Tom Clarke, Nathan Clarke, Danny Adams, Danny Schofield, Jon Worthington, Michael Collins, Chris Brandon (Tony Carss 88), Pawel Abbott, Gary Taylor-Fletcher
