LEE: "I'M HERE TO SCORE GOALS"

Posted on: Wed 25 Aug 2010

Alan Lee has joined Huddersfield Town with one thing in mind - scoring goals.

The big 32 year old has already netted two goals in four Championship appearances for Crystal Palace this term and is now looking forward to furthering his good start to the season in the blue and white stripes of Town.

"I know a lot of people in football and I started getting a few texts and things about rumours surrounding me and Huddersfield and then the manager pulled me to one side before the first game of the season to tell me that the Chairman had been in discussion with Town," Lee told htafc.com.

"At that point I was told not to think about it and to concentrate on the game, but then once I knew Crystal Palace had accepted a bid that changed things. You always like to feel wanted and I've heard some brilliant things about the Club from people I respect in the game.

"The size and the ambition of the Club appeals to me, as well as Lee Clark and the experienced backroom staff at the Club - that experience is very, very impressive. The stadium is impressive too - I can't believe how many people are on site! I'm really thrilled to be here.

"It will be great to be a part in a push for promotion. We finished on a high last season, just escaping relegation on the final day, and it will be great to be at the other end of the scale this year."

Irishman Lee already knows a couple of Town's players from his time at Ipswich Town - Jordan Rhodes and Gary Roberts.

"I know a couple of the players here and I've spoken to them about Huddersfield before, but once the wheels of a transfer are in motion I don't want to involve other people. As a result, I think Robbo and Rhodesy might get a surprise when they see me here today!

"It's no surprise to me how well Jordan has done here. I couldn't believe it when Ipswich Town let such a talent go, albeit for money, as Jordan has a fantastic future in the game. He absolutely loves his football and is a great professional, as everyone here will know; he is a really clever footballer too and having such quality footballers here is a big reason why I've come."

Alan is looking forward to a potential home debut in the big League One game against Charlton Athletic on Saturday; kick-off 3pm.

"It's nice that my debut might be on home soil against another big team in Charlton. I like the big games, so I'm really looking forward to it.

"I've just turned 32 and what I try and give is 100%; that's all you can do. I've been playing up front on my own at Palace and it's been very tough - I've been a typical target man - but I feel like there is more to my game; I think I can still run in behind and I am here to score goals.

"I've not seen a lot of Huddersfield, but from what my friends tell me they play a lot of good football and get a lot of crosses into the box. I'll be looking to get on the end of them!"
