TOWN APPEAL TO FANS FOR HELP

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

Town are appealing for help from fans with the implementation of the 'multi-ball' system on home matchdays.

The multi-ball system - which allows ball-boys to supply players with one of a number of extra footballs immediately after the ball goes dead - was utilised during Town's opening home fixture against Tranmere Rovers on 14 August and worked well, but it is worth remembering that the referee can withdraw the option if 'stray' footballs are thrown back onto the pitch during play.

As a result, the Club is asking fans who happen to get hold of a football during the game to simply return it to the nearest ball-boy or steward - please do not throw it back onto the pitch!

The multi-ball system is utilised at various clubs throughout England and allows play to continue almost immediately once the ball goes out for a throw-in, corner or dead ball. In some situations this speedy return can benefit a quick-thinking team that can catch the opposition off guard.

Different Academy age groups operate as Town's team of matchday ball-boys throughout the season.
