Less than 24 hours into his spell as a Huddersfield Town player, new loan signing Joe Garner has already experienced a win on his new home turf.
The 22-year old striker joined the Club on a six month loan from Nottingham Forest yesterday afternoon and was thrust straight into the pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers last night, coming on as a substitute for Jordan Rhodes just after the hour mark.
In that short spell Town fans saw exactly why Lee Clark has been chasing him since the turn of the year; Garner didn't give the Rovers defence a moment's rest all evening and looked to have genuine quality in all aspects of his game.
Joe told htafc.com that he was aware of Town's January interest and is glad to be finally underway at his new club:
"I first heard about Huddersfield Town's interest in January. At the time I wasn't playing a lot of games at Forest and I spoke to the manager at Forest, but he wouldn't let me out because the Club was on the verge of the Play-Offs and he wanted all hands on deck in case of injuries. However, now the opportunity has arisen and here I am," Joe told the Club's official website.
"I spoke to the Gaffer and Terry Mac and they speak very highly of the Club - it is definitely heading in the right direction. The Club had a very good season last year and the type of football the team play is very good.
"The players that the Club has brought in are of good quality and the Club is setup to have a really good go this year.
"The manager has asked me to just do what I'm good at, because if I do it should benefit the team and the Club. Hopefully I can bring some more goals to the team, but I also like to work hard and bring other people into play. I want to play as much as I can and hopefully I can bring an extra something to the team."
Garner was already familiar with quite a few of his new teammates at Town, having played with and against them during his previous time as a Blackburn trainee and in the Championship with Forest.
"I know Anthony Pilkington; we were a part of the same youth team at Blackburn. I've also played against Jamie McCombe and Lee Croft in the Championship and against Lee Peltier as a part of the Liverpool youth team. I'm sure I'll fit right in once I get going and it was nice to play for a spell last night."
