Lee Novak has today signed a contract extension that will see him stay at Huddersfield Town until the summer of 2013.

The popular 21-year old has added an extra year to his original deal at the Club following a great first season at Town.

Lee joined the Club from Blue Square North outfit Gateshead for an undisclosed fee in the January 2009 transfer window, with the deal stipulating that Novak returned to the Tynesiders on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

After helping Ian Bogie's side to promotion with 26 goals that season, which saw him scoop the Blue Square North's Golden Boot award, Lee scored his first Town goal from the penalty spot on his fourth appearance for the Club in the 7-1 rout of Brighton & Hove Albion on 18 August.

From that point onwards 'Super Novak' never looked back; he quickly became a fans' favourite with the Town faithful due to his incredible work rate and unselfish play and by the end of the season he had netted an impressive 14 goals in 31 starts, with a further 14 appearances as a substitute.

Town Manager Lee Clark praised Novak's contribution to the team:

"Lee's contract extension is massive for the Club and just rewards for him for the excellent work he put in last season.

"Obviously we brought Lee in from non-league football and it might have been seen as a gamble as we didn't know how he would adapt, but he probably did better than he could have hoped for; to play so many games in his first season at this level was brilliant and every time he played he deserved his place in the team.

"He's become a crowd favourite because of his work ethic and I think the Club have shown that if players come in and do the business they will be rewarded in terms of extensions to their contract.

"There is still more to come from him, but he has set his own standards now and he needs to kick on. This is just the start for him.

"It's a big year for him. He's not an unknown now and he has to continue his development, which I have stressed to him. I think he will though, because his work ethic and attitude are absolutely brilliant. This contract extension is thoroughly deserved."
