NATHAN: "IT WAS A NICE MOMENT"

Posted on: Sun 31 Jan 2010

New loan signing Nathan Eccleston has a couple of good reasons to remember his Huddersfield Town debut at Yeovil this weekend.

Not only did the pacey 19-year old net the winner on his first-team bow to hand his team the three points at Huish Park, but he had to be replaced after picking up an unusual injury!

Despite scoring the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute, Eccleston stressed that it was the performance of the team that sealed the victory:

"I said when I arrived that the main thing was to go to Yeovil and get the three points and that's what we did," Nathan explained. "For me, scoring the goal was just a bonus. 'Rhodesy' got through a lot of hard work up front and the entire team put in a battling performance, so even though I scored the goal everyone deserves the congratulations.

"The manager said before kick-off that if and when we did score, he wanted to see our togetherness when we celebrated and when I scored the whole team came across to me. It was a nice moment for me, especially as it was in front of the Huddersfield fans."

Nathan linked up very well with top scorer Jordan Rhodes on his first appearance for the Club and looked right at home amongst his teammates, but admitted after the final whistle that he is still getting accustomed to the other players.

"I only knew about three of the lads' names going into the game; Lee Peltier, 'Drinky' (Danny Drinkwater) and 'Rhodesy' (Jordan Rhodes) up front. I had to keep asking what the two central midfielders were called during the match! I only arrived at the Club on Thursday, so I'm still getting to know the other faces. All the new lads seem to be settling in well though."

The Manchester-born forward was replacedafter picking up a deep cut just above his knee in the 66th minute and explained that he picked up the problem through a slightly unusual method:

"I think the Yeovil player's teeth went into my leg! I'm not sure what happened, but after he slipped he obviously thought that was the only way of stopping me! Obviously it was by mistake and the lad came and apologised to me after the game. I just needed a few stitches but as it took time, the Gaffer had to make the substitution. Hopefully it should be ok within the next couple of days when the stitches are taken out."
