LIONEL LOANED TO BRENTFORD

Posted on: Wed 27 Jan 2010

Town winger Lionel Ainsworth has today joined League One Brentford on loan for one month.

The 22-year old midfielder joined the Terriers in the January 2009 transfer window from Championship side Watford and has featured in the matchday eighteen in practically every game this season, but has been restricted to four starts and thirteen substitute appearances in all competitions.

Lionel will stay at Griffin Park until February 27th inclusive and should go straight into contention for manager Andy Scott's squad for their League One game at Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Town manager Lee Clark explained the reasons behind Lionel's move:

"Lionel has become frustrated at the lack of first team starting opportunities he has had, mostly due to the excellent form of Gary Roberts and Anthony Pilkington.

"As a result, he indicated to me that he would like to move out and get some games. If players are unhappy, it is not necessary to keep them here so we helped him as much as we could to get this move."

During his loan period, Brentford will face Town's promotion rivals Colchester United, as well as fellow League One outfits Oldham, Gillingham, Walsall and Tranmere Rovers.
