SIMPSON DELIGHTED TO BE BACK

Posted on: Fri 18 Dec 2009

Robbie Simpson is itching to get back out on the pitch to show everyone at Huddersfield Town just what he is capable of.

The 24 year old striker has been on the sidelines since mid-October with a troublesome thigh problem, but is part of Lee Clark's 20-man travelling squad for this weekend's League One clash at Norwich City - a Club where he was once a schoolboy.

"I'm delighted to be honest," Robbie explained. "It's been a long time since I even trained with the lads but I've had a good full week and, touch wood, everything seems to be fine. I'm delighted to be back and a part of it.

"While you're injured it's important to do the corporate side of things and keep on mixing with the lads that are playing to keep their spirits up, although they've done a pretty good job of that themselves - on the pitch, they have been brilliant. For me personally, to be involved with the lads in the changing room has been brilliant, because it has been a long ten weeks that I haven't been involved.

"The management and the rest of the players have been brilliant with me; making me feel a part of it and not feel left out. However, deep down you do feel a little bit on your own and it is hard.

"I've done a mini pre-season with Blackie and it's been very hard! It's like I'm starting all over again; before I picked up the thigh injury I had only started four games and I want to make a big impression.

"I was delighted to get off the mark for the Club at Rotherham earlier this season in just my third start, but I got injured after the next game at Colchester. My goal at Rotherham came from a great ball in from 'Pilks' and while I've been off I've watched him and 'Robbo' be on fire - I've been itching to get back out there and get some more goals!"

However, the former Coventry City man knows he has a tough task to get back in the team given the form of the other three mainline strikers.

"Jordan, Lee and Theo have been doing a tremendous job and it will be hard for me to get back in the side with those three playing like they are so I'll just have to work ten times harder, as I am with Blackie on the training ground. Hopefully when I get my chance I will take it, just like they have.

"Touch wood the other lads won't get injured, but if they do I have to be ready to go out onto the pitch and perform as they have - and score the goals."
