PETER: "WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR"
Huddersfield Town captain Peter Clarke knows exactly what it means to win derby matches and told htafc.com that he, and his team, have no fear over facing current league leaders Leeds United on Saturday.
The former Everton trainee was given the Man of the Match award after a Merseyside derby between the Toffees and Liverpool in February 2002 and explained that the match holds no fear for him.
"If you can't be mentally prepared and in the right frame of mind for a game of the magnitude as the one tomorrow then you are probably in the wrong business," Peter told the Club's official website.
"There is a bit of a buzz around the place and we will go into tomorrow's game full of confidence and hopefully get the three points."
The 27-year old explained that even the players who don't have a Yorkshire background understand what it means to the local lads and the fans.
"The local boys have been giving out the vibes to the lads about the magnitude of the game and the fact that not so long ago, Leeds United were a big club. Lots of players will go to Elland Road and be intimidated by 35,000 fans, but we have to use the hostile atmosphere to our advantage and hopefully quieten them down and frustrate them. Then we can impose our game on them."
Peter's thoughts are firmly fixed on winning both this weekend's clash and a place in the Championship next season.
"The Chairman, the manager, the players and everyone around the Club are all aiming to play in the Championship next year - that's what we want. I don't want to lose any game though - I want to win every one and get promotion!"
This Saturday's clash, which kicks off at 12.15, will see the 27-year old come up against former manager Simon Grayson, who he played under at Blackpool and Clarke knows that any information Grayson knows about him will have already been passed on to Jermaine Beckford and co.
"I played and was managed by 'Larry' and I'm sure he will be concentrating on the players in his side. However, if he is thinking about players we have got and problems that we may pose to his team then we will be happy.
"I want to win this game as much as any. I have played with 'Larry' and he was the manger of my previous club; we have a history but I don't feel any big need to get one over him. We want to win this game to stay in the top six and further our ambition to gain promotion."
