Junior football club Pontefract Pirates will set sail into the Galpharm Stadium for the first time on Saturday for Town's game against Hartlepool United, kick-off 3pm.
The Club was formed just three years ago when football coach Trevor Waddington put an advert in a local paper inviting children with learning disabilities to join existing side Pontefract Collieries in training, as he told htafc.com earlier this week:
"I must admit I was very nervous at first but I need not have been as it was the most enjoyable training session I have ever done in all my years of coaching mainstream juniors!", Trevor explained.
"It grew from strength to strength and we currently have around 50 players all with a heartbreaking story to tell and all with a totally different personality. They are now the heartbeat of the Club and turn up to all our 1st team matches and help around our little stadium.
"We moved on in the first year and found many other teams similar around the country and had numerous enjoyable friendlies, always resulting in new friends. One of them gave four of our Pirates the opportunity to go to the Leicester Special Olympics and represent Yorkshire & Humberside - I personally went with them they brought home three silver medals and one bronze!"
The Pirates have recently realized their dream of becoming part of an official League.
"We pestered the West Riding FA for a year asking for a proper league setup and I this dream was realized earlier this month, with a two division league setup. We have two teams, one in each division and are doing very well."
This weekend the Pirates are taking a well-deserved break and are taking in their first Town game as a Club.
"Everyone at Pontefract Pirates Football Club can't wait to come to Huddersfield Town; I'd like to thank everyone at the Club for making it possible. Town are a credit to the Football League and will make some football mad guys and girl very happy this weekend."
